Toe Tac Tic is a strategic twist on Tic Tac Toe. It’s a pen-and-paper game very similar to Tic Tac Toe, but with a twist – whoever scores 3 in a row loses. This results in more strategy (and no cat’s games)!

Which means both preschoolers who are just learning games, and adults who love strategy, can play it!

I actually invented this game when I was 10 years old. I hope you enjoy it!

Players: 2

Ages: 5-adult

Time:  1-2 minutes / game

SET-UP:
Draw a # on a piece of paper:

Randomly pick who will go first the first round. Alternate after that. Whoever goes first is the ‘X’ player; the other player is the ‘O’ player.

HOW TO PLAY:

Players alternate drawing an X or O on any open space.

HOW TO LOSE:

The first player to score 3-in-a-row loses – and the other player is the winner!

If the board fills up with neither player getting a 3-in-a-row, it’s a Cat’s Game, and the player who went first (X) wins!

(Why would a Cat’s game be a victory for whoever went first? Because the player who went first made a total of 5 X’s, and the other player made only 4 O’s. So the first player had more combinations of ways to get 3 in a row, and hence not losing was more difficult for them.)

SHEEPLE: The Best Game in the Ewe-niverse

If you’ve never played my game SHEEPLE: The Best Game in the Ewe-niverse before, check it out! It’s a really fun party game for all ages. It’s a great ice-breaker game, and playing this game can make you more creative! It’s the opposite of Scattergories, and it’s the Game of Life but with sheep! Ewe can pick it up on Amazon, too.

Not only is SHEEPLE lots of fun, it’s a great way to boost your creativity. I used to take improv classes, and thinking on your feet means coming up with ideas quickly, without having time to question what’s a good idea and what’s not. You have a minute to write down as many ideas as ewe can. When you first play, your brain will feel exhausted of ideas after just 30 seconds. But as you play more, the brainstorming part of your brain gets stronger. Which makes you more creative.

Then you compare items, and your items only score points if another player also put them down – so to win, ewe must Think Like a Sheep!

So items score points that are ewe-nique, but not too ewe-nique. And that’s also the sweet spot with creativity – answers that aren’t too obvious, but aren’t too out there, either.

My hope is that this game will make the world a more creative place. Creativity is one of the most important and valuable skills a person can have, plus it makes life so much more fun and fulfilling! But it isn’t a primary focus of grade school, is it?
